Why buy a slate indoor or garden fountain? Is slate ecological?
The German Slate Association (https://schiefer-fachverband.de/das-naturprodukt-schiefer/) provides us with the answer: Since slate itself is a natural product with ecologically unproblematic ingredients, it has an ideal ecological balance. It is superior to materials that had to be made by combining various natural components.
The production of slate requires only one processing (ie formatting) with a very low energy consumption, in contrast to products that either require pre-treated raw materials (cement-bound products) or that only become a roofing product through firing (eg tiles).
The processing and further processing on the construction site is unproblematic for the employees.
The fact that there is practically no transport route between extraction and processing is particularly beneficial for the transport balance. Since slate has to be split while still wet from the mountain, production always takes place directly at the extraction site.
