CUBI 40 Rusty – Pflanzgefäss Eckig 40x40x40 cm Schiefer Braun - CLIMAQUA

plant pots

Stone planters are heavy, frost-resistant, and can be left outside all year round without cracking or fading. In anthracite, they suit both modern and classic exterior architecture. They are ideal for plants that require a permanent spot and do not need to be repotted every year.

Anthracite planters for any outdoor concept

Color is not just a detail for a planter, but a fundamental tone. An anthracite planter visually brings any planting to the fore: an olive tree, a boxwood sphere, grasses, or a bright Japanese maple stand out against the dark background as if on a stage. Anthracite is a color that suits almost any modern architecture — from a grey facade or a terrace with dark floor tiles to a minimalist front garden with a gravel surface. A grey planter, on the other hand, takes a step back and allows the plant to have an even stronger effect, without the planter itself disappearing. Both tones are deliberately chosen for their restraint: no gloss, no artificial pigmentation, but the authentic color of concrete in two shades.

What both tones have in common is that they do not age loudly. An anthracite planter made of cheap material fades after two summers in the sun, while a high-quality one retains its depth. With a grey planter, the difference is even more apparent, as any fading would be immediately visible there. CUBI and RECTO work in both tones because the stone is colored throughout and not just surface-painted — the tone goes through the entire planter, not just over the skin.

Planter shapes: Square and rectangle with a system

A planter is more than just a container; it is a spatial element. CUBI brings a square, almost cube-like form — it stands still, provides a clear direction, and fits wherever architecture works with right angles. Two CUBIs placed to the left and right of an entrance frame the door like a gate; three in a row along a wall zone an outdoor area without the need for a wall. RECTO is the elongated variant: a rectangular planter that can be placed along a wall, mark a terrace edge, or hold a low privacy screen of grasses or bamboo. Both shapes speak the same language, but with different syntax.

The shape helps determine what grows inside. A CUBI fits a compact solitary plant — a boxwood cube, a hydrangea, a small ornamental shrub. A RECTO fits several plants in a row: three lavenders, five grasses, a mini-hedge of boxwood or spindle shrub. Anyone using a planter as a privacy screen or room divider on the terrace will get the most out of RECTO, because its length automatically draws a line. Anyone wanting to set individual accents should reach for CUBI. Both models are dimensioned to stand without a frame or base — the stone supports itself. CUBI and RECTO complement our natural stone plant bowls for shallower plantings.

Stone that remains outdoors: material and workmanship

Stone is the honest answer to outdoor conditions. When crafted with high quality, it is weather-resistant, heavy, dense, and solid: it won’t tip over in the wind, withstands summer rain just as well as cool autumn evenings, and does not crack at the first sign of frost. A concrete planter develops its own patina over time, which makes the material more stylish instead of just aging it — no frills, no empty promises, just substance. Unlike plastic planters that become brittle after three summers, or ceramic that fails at the first frost crack, a concrete planter remains stable. The planter is a perfect match for the ViDA fountain.

At CLIMAQUA, you will find this substance in two models: CUBI as a square planter with a calm cube shape, and RECTO as an elongated version for walls, terrace edges, or privacy screens — both in anthracite, both made of stylish materials that are easy to maintain and very easy to handle. Delivery from Germany or Switzerland, arriving at your doorstep in just a few business days.

FAQs about our planters

Are the planters frost-proof?

Yes. CUBI and RECTO are cast from dense stone that does not absorb moisture, which would otherwise expand when freezing. You can leave the planters outside all year round — even through German and Swiss winters. The only important thing is that planted containers have a drainage hole so that no water accumulates in the root ball and freezes.

Which planter suits my balcony or garden?

CUBI for individual accents: next to the entrance, at a corner of the terrace, as a focal point between two seating areas. RECTO for rows, lines, or as a low privacy screen — if you want to place several plants side by side or mark an edge. For a small balcony: CUBI in the smaller size. For an open terrace or garden: feel free to combine several.

How do I maintain a stone planter?

Very little. Rinse occasionally with clear water; do not use a high-pressure cleaner or aggressive scrubbing. The patina the stone acquires over time is intentional—do not scrub it away. In winter, do not use road salt nearby, as it damages all outdoor stone.
